Kona Chocolate Festival and Chocolate Weeks in Belize

The Kona Chocolate Festival is scheduled for March 31 through April 5, 2009, gala event taking place on Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 6:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. A three day symposium is part of the festival. It will feature workshops for cooks, farmers chocolate lovers and families and include sessions on sustainability, professional techniques and recipes for use at home, tasting, and dining out. Also this year, Mole' and Sculpture has been added to the regional competition as well as a Miss Chocolate pageant and Chocolate themed fashion show. Judges will include Madelyn Miller, co-owner of Chocolate Atlas and owner of Travellady.com, and Sam Choy, Autumn Martin from New York.

Belize

Chocolate Weeks at Cotton Tree Lodge is set for February 8-15 and May 17-25, during the Toledo Cacao Festival, which celebrates the Mayan art of chocolate making.

The seven-night packages include a visits to a local organic cocoa farm and Punta Gorda Farmers Market, a Mayan chocolate making workshop at the farmer’s home and other workshops of preparing and cooking with chocolate, a meeting with representatives of the Toledo Cacao Growers Association, and sightseeing excursions.
